ARCHITECTURE CONCEPT | The NordhaleØen project envisions an artificial island designed to address multiple urban challenges in Copenhagen. By integrating a sustainable water barrier with innovative urban development, the project aims to protect the city from flooding while providing new housing and infrastructure. The architectural approach emphasizes connectivity, creating a hub that links the previously isolated areas of Refshaleøen and Nordhavnen.

LANDSCAPE DESIGN | The landscape design incorporates natural recreational areas and green spaces that promote biodiversity and ecological balance. These spaces not only enhance the visual appeal of the island but also serve as vital public areas for leisure and community activities. The careful integration of green routes supports pedestrian and bicycle traffic, fostering a more environmentally friendly urban mobility system.

MASTERPLAN | The masterplan for NordhaleØen addresses key urban challenges, including climate change adaptation and population growth. The project proposes a multi-functional development that combines residential, commercial, and recreational spaces. By incorporating a transit hub with a ferry terminal and a new metro line, the masterplan enhances connectivity within Copenhagen while promoting green mobility solutions. The plan is designed to be self-financing through the sale of building sites created from surplus soil, ensuring a sustainable financial model for ongoing development​( URBAN POWER, Future Architecture Platform).

SPATIAL DESIGN | The conversion of surplus soil from existing construction projects into building materials for the island exemplifies a sustainable approach to urban development.
